BlackBerry is the original brand of  wireless handheld devices (tablets, smartphones, etc.) and services as they are designed and market by BlackBerry Ltd which is formerly known as Research in Motion Ltd (RIM). The first device to be marketed by RIM is the Inter@ctive Pager 900. It is a type of device  which is formed of a clamshell that can allow it to do paging in two ways. The Inter@ctive Pager 800 was then created for IBM which bought worth of them for a US amount of $10 million. This was after the success of the first Inter@ctive Pager device. The next device to be designed by RIM was the Inter@ctive Pager 950 but the very first device to carry the BlackBerry name was the BlackBerry 850, an email pager. Although the 950 was identical within its appearance, the 850 was meant to be the first device to integrate email and the name Inter@ctive Pager was no longer to give its brand for the device.

Most of the recent devices BlackBerry usually designs are the BlackBerry Priv, BlackBerry Passport (original, AT&T version and Silver edition) BlackBerry Classic and BlackBerry Leap although the BlackBerry Z30 is also still considered as one of the “second generation” devices of BlackBerry 10. With BlackBerry, their devices would have a interface of the user varied by its model and most of them feature of a physical QWERTY keyboard. For newer generations, they would rely on a multi-touch screen and a virtual keyboard. BlackBerry Priv which runs Android was officially announced in September and was released in November. Furthermore, BlackBerry’s devices can be used mainly for stuff like video recording, photo taking, playing music and even other functions such as web browsing, messaging (email and instant) and the multi-platform service of BlackBerry.

As we all know, BlackBerry is  considered as one of the vendors for major smartphones in the world specializing in secure communications and productivity. For its own use on devices that are made prior to the new BlackBerry 10 Operating System (BBOS 7 and earlier), the consumer BlackBerry Internet Service is available in 91 countries worldwide on over 500 mobile service operators using various mobile service technologies. As of September 2013,  there are 85 million subscribers of BlackBerry worldwide but that number drops down to 46 million from September 2014.  Started from November 2013, BlackBerry Messenger was run on multiple platforms including Android, iOS and Windows Phone and up to June 2015 it got 260 million new users.

As of now from September 2015, BlackBerry announces that it would launch a new smartphone on the platform of Android called Priv. What they expect of Priv is that it should work with many of the world’s carriers and the four major carriers in the U.S.
